Dr. Maria Macfarlane is an accomplished and highly skilled dentist who has been practicing in Tauranga, New Zealand for over 20 years. She earned her Doctor of Dental Science Degree from the University of Otago in 1998 and became registered to practice in New Zealand in 2001. Throughout her career, Dr. Macfarlane has gained a reputation as a trusted and compassionate practitioner who is dedicated to providing high-quality care to her patients.
Dr. Macfarlane is committed to staying at the forefront of dental practice and has invested in professional development to enhance her skills and knowledge. Rosemary Edwards
Hygienist
Rosemary graduated in 1985 from Birmingham Dental University, UK.
Rosemary has a wealth of dental experience and feels strongly about making a difference in her work and is passionate about transforming patients mouths and seeing improvements in their oral conditions.
She aims to make prevention work for her patients and hopes to change habits for optimal dental health. Outside of the practice Rosemary enjoys spending time with her family, keeping fit with walking, swimming and water sports….she loves being on the water or on the beach. She and her husband are keen renovators-having renovated many properties together.
Brooke Holmes
RDH, BSDH, COSE
Brooke is our Laser Dental Hygienist. She joined our team in 2020, and has 18 years of clinical experience. She completed her Dental Hygiene training at Western Kentucky University in the USA, which was ranked as a top 3 Dental Hygiene program in the States during her time there. Brooke obtained a Bachelors of Science in Dental Hygiene with Honours from WKU.
Brooke has training in Advanced Periodontal Therapy, which means she is adept in knowledge and skill in treating all stages of periodontal disease. She is also the first Hygienist in New Zealand to train for and own an Epic Hygiene Laser, and she travels around New Zealand lecturing and training other hygienists and therapists in Soft Tissue Laser Therapy. She is the first clinician in New Zealand to offer this type of training and skill advancement to other clinicians. She loves to give personalised treatment to a patient's unique individual needs, and to see healing and the improved health outcomes of each patient.
Brooke has completed her COSE (Certificate in Oral Systemic Education) Certificate from the USA, giving her the most up to date knowledge from industry leaders in Oral Systemic Health as it relates to Complex Body Systems.
When not in the hygiene surgery, Brooke coaches basketball and football; and loves spending time with her children and family. She loves living and working in New Zealand, and life in the Bay of Plenty.
Brooke is a Member of the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD), the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health (AAOSH), the National Network of Healthcare Hygienists (NNHH), and the New Zealand Oral Health Association (NZOHA).
Dee Brown
Senior Head Dental Assistant
Dee, the Head Dental Assistant at Tauranga Crossing Dental, boasts an impressive 38 years of experience in the dental field. Her extensive background in dentistry reflects her expertise and commitment to the profession.
Dee’s attention to detail and gentle approach are particularly noteworthy, as they contribute to a comfortable and reassuring experience for even the most nervous patients. Her friendly smile, sense of humour, and compassionate nature create an inviting environment that positively shapes each patient’s dental visit.
The team is truly fortunate to have Dee as an essential member, as she plays a crucial role in ensuring that every appointment is stress-free and enjoyable for all patients. Her contributions enhance the overall quality of care provided by the clinic.
When she’s not working, Dee enjoys spending time with her dog Millie during walks, savoring coffee, and indulging in cocktails. Her love for adventure is evident as well, with her enthusiasm for exploring new overseas destinations. This well-rounded mix of interests adds to her vibrant and dynamic personality, contributing to the positive atmosphere she helps create both at work and in her personal life.
Luciana Figueroa
Dental Assistant
Luciana’s dedication as a Dental Assistant at Tauranga Crossing Dental is commendable, especially considering her prior experience as a qualified dentist in Argentina. This background undoubtedly equips her with a deep understanding of the field and allows her to contribute significantly to the team’s success.
Having spent three years in New Zealand, Luciana has had ample time to establish meaningful friendships that have evolved into a sense of family.

Meet Lesley, our part-time receptionist at Tauranga Crossing Dental. She brings warmth and friendliness into our practice. Originally from the UK, Lesley and her husband made the journey here, infusing our team with dedication and a welcoming spirit. Beyond her role as a receptionist, Lesley is a loving parent to two children and is a proud grandmother. Her passion for travel and gardening reflects her well-rounded nature, adding a dash of adventure and tranquillity to her life.
